HMGxRISD Research Project:
Marine-Based Bioadhesives
2024-2025Developed a formaldehyde-free, water-resistant bioadhesive for use in wood, fabric, and glass inspired by marine organisms (barnacles, mussels, and sandcastle worms) that can withstand over 500N of tensile force per square inch.
Collaborated directly with HMG designers and engineers, RISD Nature Lab, Brown Design Workshop, materials scientists at the Tufts Silk Lab and the University of Waterloo, and local seafood restaurants to do extensive prototyping, Instron machine testing, SEM scanning, and analysis/integration of food waste systems.
